"'70's AM rock splendor from psych supergroup. The best
driving music modern money can buy." - UNCUT

"...a joyous celebration of classic rock music, as
life-affirming and unabashed as they come…" - OTHER MUSIC

After 2006, it was uncertain if there would be another Howlin Rain record. Well, at least in the mind of the musical world at large.

For Ethan Miller, the group’s founder, visionary, songwriter and singer, the collapse of the original line-up was just a set back. There was no licking of wounds, no uncertainty. Miller simply went back to the formula he used after first conceiving Howlin Rain during a winter storm at his cabin on the Eel River: write a batch of undeniable songs, gather his talented friends and create a signature musical language.

Check out the great article Melody Stone did over at the Eureka Reporter today. Because of Melody the ER's Friday insert is quickly becoming my favorite local entertainment guide. After reading her story on Howlin Rain's Humboldt connection I went and bought their new LP, Magnificent Fiend, at Amazon MP3. You can get it at iTunes as well but Amazons are DRM free

The bride reminded me that a couple members of Howlin Rain played in my front yard (as in kids, not band). More on this as memory permits.

I am testing out a, soon to be, new feature of Blogger called Video Upload. You can try it yourself at Blogger In Draft where early adopters can try out new features before they're ready for full release.

A four piece acoustic ukulele band from Northern California, proves the little instrument is not a toy. UKEsperience was formed in 2006, when musicians sharing a passion for the uke and a vision of a ukulele band, came together after performing in other bands. A primo blend of folk, rock, world, island vibe, boogie ukulele, our music is appealing to all ages. With an endorsement by Pono ‘ukuleles from Wahiawa, Hawaii, UKEsperience is among these ukulele legends and performers: Abe Lagrimus Jr., Ben Chong, Bruce Shimabukuro, Chino Montero, Ernie Cruz Jr., Jin Takuma, Ledward Kaapana, Lyle Ritz, Roy Sakuma, and others. Our natural sound strongly emphasizes the ukulele, producing, not the usual old standards, but interesting and innovative tunes. We can also be heard online at Ukefarm Radio : links: ukesperience.com : myspace.com/ukesperience :

Laden Swallow will be releasing their debut album Awaken with a massive all ages show in McKinleyville. This will be one of the best local shows this year, so do yourself a favor and come. Website: www.myspace.com/ladenswallow

Laden Swallow CD Release Party
When: Friday, May 18, 2007 8:00pm
Where: Azalea Hall, 1620 Pickett Road, McKinleyville, California 95519

Laden Swallow: Pop/Rock/Alternative. From the land of jam bands, Humboldt County, comes a power trio willing to rock and swoon you with tales of drunk driving, kinky sex and some broken hearts mixed in for good measure. Mark and Ed first joined forces in late 2002 when they got together over Thanksgiving break. Having not much to do with their time besides playing music they recorded three songs in the garage that would set the stage for Laden Swallow. Ed in the mean time spent several months playing with other musicians, one of them just so happened to be Justin. Flash forward to 2005 when Mark and Ed decided to take their musical talents and make a name for themselves, but they still required a bassist. Ed remembered Justin from two years ago and by chance ran into Justin as he was manning the register at the schools cafeteria. With the words Hey you wanna audition for my band Laden Swallow was now a power trio. The earth may quake, but Laden Swallow will be there to pick you up.

I got this e-mail today:

heya- how you doin'? just droppin a line that we're playing a short set at humbrews tomorrow(thursday) march 1st before Yer Dog.
we just finished a new album. it's being mastered as we speak, and as soon as we get the finished product, i'll send you one. love to hear what you think about it, we're pretty stoked on it. we're doing a southern humboldt world tour for the release that will be eight shows in about five weeks. most of the shows will be benefits for the local volunteer fire departments, Salmon Creek, Whale Gulch, Briceland, Palo Verde. one in redway that's a benefit for KMUD, an acoustic show at the Garberville Theater (a benefit for The Civil Liberties Monitoring Project) and a show at a new possibility for an all ages venue in Garberville. it's the old school district office and this show will be raising money to help The Youth Center buy the building. The kick off show is at Nicki's Bar in Shelter Cove on Saint Patricks Day. Hope alls well on your end! cheers--- T. ---The NPK

I would love to be there guys but I have to work. If you have not heard The NPK I suggest you go give a listen.
